Small and Medium Businesses and the Economy
Generally speaking, too much centralization of economic power is a negative. Companies know that putting all their eggs in one basket, metaphorically speaking, is risky. The same is true for our economy in general. In most sectors, competition and diversity is positive. Without entering into the capitalism controversy, it is safe to say small and medium businesses [under 500 employees] are absolutely essential to any economy. After all, 50% of the U.S. workforce is employed by small businesses, they create the majority of new innovations, and they represent 95% of all exported goods.
As the United States, and the world, recovers from the recent recession, there is a lot of opportunity for small and medium sized businesses (SMBs). With so many talented individuals laid-off from cost-cutting mega companies, new businesses are starting up all over the country. The question is whether these small businesses survive their first five years of business.
On major challenge that these companies will face is the new world of technology and internet marketing. The technical revolution has created a great deal of opportunity for SMBs, but it has also created a significant hurdle. In order to remain competitive, SMBs must find a way to utilize technology and internet marketing. Unfortunately, the cost for effectively growing in these areas is high, and the technical knowledge required makes it tough for do-it-yourself-ers.
Our founding vision at Wex Marketing is to empower SMBs to remain competitive by offering them large-corporation strategies and tools at local company prices. Through dedication, niche development, and our technologically savvy team, we hope to make web design and development, print design, marketing strategy, marketing research, direct mail, business card design, advertising, etc become affordable and accessible for local businesses in our region. We focus on clean, creative, logical marketing campaigns and design work. We believe that SMBs can and should succeed despite the technology hurdle, and it is our aim to help.
